Men's Soccer Falls to Baruch, Now Must Win on Wednesday

Maspeth, N.Y.— The John Jay men's soccer team was defeated by Baruch College 3-1 in the City University of New York Athletic Conference men's soccer contest at the Metropolitan Oval on Saturday afternoon.

With the loss, John Jay, now 2-11-2 overall and 1-5-2 in CUNYAC play with one conference match remaining which they must win in order for a chance to qualify for the CUNYAC playoffs which start on Wed. Oct. 28. John Jay will host York College at 8 p.m. at the Metropolitan Oval on Wed. Oct. 21.

On Saturday, the host Bearcats scored a goal in the first half at the 30:10 marker to give Baruch a 1-0 lead.

The Baruch lead stayed that way into halftime. But in the second half, Baruch got a goal at 66:40 and another at 72:10 to go up by three. Baruch's first two goals were scored by Igor Polisski and the other by Stefan Cocea.

John Jay broke up the shutout with exactly 10 minutes remaining on a strike by Joceny Theresias (St. Louis-Du-Nord, Haiti, Metropolitan)to get John Jay within two.

But the Bloodhounds could get no closer as Baruch registered 24 shots to eight for the Bloodhounds. Baruch outshot John Jay 15-5 in the first half and 9-3 in the final 45 minutes.

Joseph Rahilly (Malverne, NY, Malverne) stopped eight shots for the Bloodhounds.

John Jay is back in action on Mon. Oct. 19 for a match at Rutgers-Newark at 7 p.m.
