New York, N.Y.— John Jay led from start to finish, winning seven of the 11 races on the evening, to improve to 2-2 on the season as the Bloodhounds defeated the College of New Rochelle 59-36 at John Jay Pool on Wednesday evening.
The Bloodhounds raced out to the lead after the team of
Nathalie Cuellar (New Rochelle, NY, New Rochelle),
Rose Edelman (Garden City, NY, Garden City),
Justyna Maksimiuk (Sunnyside, NY, Brooklyn Tech)and
Jessica Tam (Brooklyn, NY, Fort Hamilton) swam to victory in the 200 yard medley relay (2:17.47).
John Jay increased its lead after the second event as
Kaili Insalaco scored a win in the 1000 yard freestyle (13:57.93), while Cuellar finished second (14:24.78) to complete the exacta, as John Jay led 15-1 after two events.
The Bloodhounds finished second and third in the next event (200 yard freestyle) to maintain a comfortable lead and the Bloodhounds let it out another notch when Insalaco won the 50 yard freestyle (30.69) and
Megan Maiello (Towaco, NJ, Montville) finished third (35.84).
Maksimimuk scored a first place finish in the 200 yard individual medley and the Bloodhounds led 31-12 after the first five events.
In the latter stages of the meet, John Jay had wins in the 100 yard freestyle, 500 yard freestyle and 100 yard breaststroke.
Maksimiuk finished first in the 100 yard freestyle (1:07.21), while Edelman was second (1:11.42). Later Insalaco picked up another win by finishing first in the 500 yard freestyle (6:37.21), then Edelman won the 100 yard breaststroke (1:25.10) to give the Bloodhounds a 30-point lead before going into the final race.
John Jay returns to action on Mon. Nov. 30 at the College of St. Elizabeth at 6 p.m.
