Women's Swimming Falls to USMMA

New York, N.Y.— The John Jay women's swimming team lost a non conference meet at home on Thursday evening as the Bloodhounds lost to the United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) 57-38.

The loss leaves John Jay at 3-3 as the Bloodhounds wrapped up the 2009 calendar year.

John Jay never led in the event. USMMA won the opening event, the 200 yard medley relay to take a 7-0 advantage.

The Bloodhounds then picked up their first win of the night in the next event, the 1000 yard freestyle as Kaili Insalaco (Palm Coast, FL, Flagler Palm Coast) picked up the victory (13:33.50) and John Jay was down 11-5 after two events.

After USMMA built a nine point lead at 17-8 after the third event, the Bloodhounds picked up another win in the 50 yard freestyle as Justyna Maksimiuk (Sunnyside, NY, Brooklyn Tech) blazed to victory (28.14), while Jessica Tam (Brooklyn, NY, Fort Hamilton) scored a third place finish (30.54) and John Jay was down 20-14.

USMMA picked up wins in every event after and established a 57-31 lead going into the final event.

In addition to her win in the 50 yard freestyle, Maksimuk scored a second place finish in the 100 yard freestyle (1:00.80) and 100 yard breaststroke (1:30.13).

Johanna McLaughlin (New York, NY, Beacon School) scored a second place finish in the 100 yard butterfly (1:20.41) and Tam scored second place in the 100 yard backstroke (1:23.78).

John Jay returns to action on Wed. Jan. 6 at Western Connecticut State at 6 p.m.
