John Jay Baseball Loses to Nationally Ranked Heidelberg College for Second Day in a Row

Port Charlotte, Fla.— Playing in their second game of the day at the Snowbird Classic, the John Jay baseball team fell to nationally ranked Heidelberg College, losing 22-1.

The eighth ranked team in the nation according to the latest NCAA Division III polls, Student Princes took a 3-0 lead in the first inning on three unearned runs en route to defeating the Bloodhounds for the second day in a row.

The Bloodhounds narrowed the deficit to 3-2 with a pair of runs in the top of the second. Starting pitcher John Massoni (Staten Island, NY, St. Peter's Boys), who led off the inning reaching on an error by the Heidelberg pitcher, scored on a base hit off the bat of Jason Witten (Staten Island, NY, New Dorp) who was 2-for-3 on the afternoon.

Moments later Xavier Perez (Bronx, NY, Manhattan Center) scored from third on a double play groundout.

But the Student Princes proceeded to score runs in each inning through the first six and Heidelberg led 16-2 en route to victory.

Massoni suffered the loss on the hill after going 5.0 full and allowing 13 runs (seven earned) on 11 hits and two strikeouts.

John Jay returns to action on Tue. Mar. 3 for a game against Muskingum College at 10 a.m.
