Mahwah, N.J. — Despite a spectacular pitching performance by senior Michael Colletta (Staten Island, NY, New Dorp), who pitched seven innings and allowed three earned runs, struck out eight and walked no one, the Bloodhounds committed seven errors, leading to a host of unearned runs, as the John Jay baseball team was defeated by Ramapo College 10-2 on Wednesday.

The host Roadrunners, who picked up the home game after Legion Field was left unplayable due to the rain on Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning, scored three runs in the bottom of the first, the latter two coming as a result of John Jay miscues as the Bloodhounds opened play with three first inning errors.

Bloodhound errors in the third and sixth innings lead to Ramapo scoring one in each inning to give the Roadrunners a 5-0 lead after six full.

Meanwhile, John Jay was left without a hit through the first 3.2 innings. John Massoni (Staten Island, NY, St. Peter's Boys)got John Jay's first hit of the afternoon with a single up the middle.

Ramapo starting pitcher Dave Cahoon went the first seven innings for Ramapo and allowed no runs on two hits with five strikeouts.

The Bloodhounds managed to dig into the deficit late in the contest with two runs in the eighth inning to avert a shutout. Massoni, who was 2-for-4, drove in John Jay's only two runs of the contest with a one out double in the eighth to score Edwin Hernandez (Brooklyn, NY, Murry Bergtraum) and Xavier Perez (Bronx, NY, Manhattan Center)against the Roadrunner bullpen.

But the Bloodhounds could get no closer. After scoring a pair in the eighth, the Bloodhounds trailed 7-2. But against Perez, who came in relief for John Jay, Ramapo scored three more times to go up 10-2 and win by that score.

John Jay returns to action on Thu. Apr. 16 for a home contest against St. Joseph's-Patchogue at 3:30 p.m.
