Flushing, N.Y. – The John Jay men's tennis team pulled off a mild upset by earning a hard fought win 5-4 over Baruch College, the defending conference champions, at the National Tennis Center on Saturday to extend its winning streak to four matches.
The Bloodhounds opened play by going up 3-0 after sweeping through doubles play. John Jay won by scores of 8-3, 8-6, and 8-1 respectively.
In singles John Jay's
Josh Pagan remained undefeated after a thrilling three set win (6-4, 6-7, 6-4) over Tadas Valiukenas who had been undefeated for the past two seasons. Pagan is now 9-0 in singles play this season.
John Jay picked up its fifth win of the day courtesy of
Derrick Chung who won in come from behind fashion, winning 4-6, 6-1, 5-1 (retired).
With the win, John Jay has secured a top four spot in the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) regular season standings and will host a quarterfinal round match on Apr. 28.
John Jay returns to action on Sun. Apr. 19 at Albertus Magnus at 1 p.m.
