Baseball Splits a Doubleheader with Yeshiva

Brooklyn, N.Y. — The John Jay baseball team split a non conference home doubleheader on Wednesday with Yeshiva University, winning the first game 18-1 before losing the second game 5-4.

In the first game the Bloodhounds pounded out 22 hits and were led by Benjamin Beiro (Bronx, NY, Wesley Chapel) who was 5-for-5 with two runs and two RBI, while Luis Guzman (Yonkers, NY, Mt. St. Michael's) was 4-for-5 with a triple, two runs and an RBI.

John Jay led 3-1 after three innings, but scored eight in the fourth, one in the fifth and six in the sixth to break it open.

Michael Colletta (Staten Island, NY, New Dorp) picked up the win holding the Macabees to a run on six hits. He struck out nine in the victory.

In the second game, the Bloodhounds got a 3-for-4 performance from Johan Abad (Corona, NY, Flushing) to up his hitting streak to 13 games.

John Jay led 4-2 going into the seventh inning, but Yeshiva pushed along three runs to take a 5-4 lead and win from there.

John Massoni suffered the loss in game two.

The Bloodhounds return to action for another home doubleheader. They host Polytechnic University starting at 2:30 p.m.
