Brooklyn, N.Y. — The John Jay baseball program had one of its most unproductive performances in its rich history as the Bloodhounds were limited to two hits and were defeated on the road, losing 19-1 to upstart St. Joseph's-Brooklyn at Keyspan Park, the home of New York Mets Single A affiliate, Brooklyn Cyclones.
The Bloodhounds were held without a hit through the first five innings and fell behind 10-0 after four frames.
John Jay got its first hit of the contest on a single to center by
Steven Kendrick (Bronx, NY, Sacred Heart) to lead off the sixth. He scored later in the inning for John Jay's only run on an RBI groundout by
James Podlucky (Staten Island, NY, IMG Academy) who was 0-for-3 with an RBI as his 16 game hitting streak ended.
The host Bears scored three runs in the second inning, four in the third, two in the fourth, one in the fifth, four in the sixth and five in the eighth. They had 19 runs on 11 hits as John Jay recorded five errors.
Podlucky started on the mound and picked up the loss. He went three innings and allowed seven runs (five earned) on five hits and struck out one.
Edwin Hernandez (Brooklyn, NY, Murry Bergtraum) recorded John Jay's other hit, a one out single in the sixth to help move Kendrick around.
John Jay returns to action on Fri. Apr. 10 for a conference doubleheader against the College of Staten Island, noon at Legion Field.
