Maspeth, N.Y.— The John Jay men's soccer team picked up its second tie of the season on Saturday as the Bloodhounds played Brooklyn College to a 1-1 contest at the Metropolitian Oval.

The Bloodhounds are now 1-6-2 overall and 0-1-2 in City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) play, while Brooklyn College is now 2-5-1 and 0-2-1 respectively.

The host Bloodhounds got the scoring started early in the first half when Omar Herrera (Elmhurst, NY, Art and Business) hit the back of the mesh at the 13:01 point of the contest to give John Jay it's first lead since its season opening win on Sept. 1 against SUNY Purchase.

The score remained 1-0 into halftime. But early in the second half, Brooklyn knotted the score at 1-1 when Ruslan Alabashev put a shot past starting goalkeeper Joseph Rahilly (Malverne, NY, Malverne)who was out of position to stop the short kick from getting passed the crease.

Neither team scored the rest of the way, but both schools had chances to put the game away. In the closing moments of regulation, Jeimy Polo (Miami, FL, Forest Hills) headed a shot off a corner kick that went just high. Meanwhile Steven Castillo (Maspeth, NY, Forest Hills) had some excellent looks. One was stopped by a dazzling save by Brooklyn College net minder Anthony Sideris and another was inches high.

John Jay out shot Brooklyn 19-17 in the contest, including a game-high five from Herrera.

Rahilly made eight saves in net for John Jay.

John Jay returns to action on Wed. Sept. 30 for a home contest against New York City Tech at 4 p.m. at the Metropolitan Oval.
