Men’s Soccer Loses Tough One in Overtime Against City Tech

Maspeth, N.Y.— The John Jay men's soccer team played their hearts out for more than one-hundred minutes on Wednesday, but the Bloodhounds fell short in overtime as the New York City College of Technology (NYCCT) defeated John Jay 2-1 in overtime on a golden goal in the 108th minute.

The loss leaves John Jay at 1-7-2 overall and 0-2-2 in City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) play this season, while NYCCT is 3-7-0 and 3-1-0 in CUNYAC.

NYCCT's goal was recorded at the 107:38 mark of the second overtime on a breakaway by their leading scorer Rafael Jara, who registered half of the NYCCT's 20 shots. He took a pass from teammate Henry Arouz and recorded the shot from point blank range out of the reach of the Bloodhound goalkeeper.

Earlier in the game, the visiting Yellow Jackets took the lead in the opening moments of the second half. After a scoreless first half, NYCCT's Vincent Mark hit the back of the mesh off a centering pass from Jara at the 46:20 point of the contest.

But John Jay evened the score in the middle of the second half on a strike by Kareem Roberts (St. Albans, NY, William Taft) at 67:34 with helpers coming from Jordan Glaze (Kingston, Jamaica, West Hempstead)and Christian Valdez (Guayaquil, Ecuador, Bushwick).

But that would be all the scoring in the contest until's Jara's game winner in overtime.

NYCCT outshot John Jay 20-10 in the contest. Roberts and Bomko each had two shots each for the Bloodhounds.

Starting goalkeeper Joseph Rahilly made 11 saves for John Jay.

John Jay returns to action on Sat. Oct. 3 for a road contest at Lehman College at noon.
