New York, N.Y.— The John Jay women's basketball team was defeated at home on Friday night as the Bloodhounds lost to Baruch College 65-44.
The loss leaves John Jay at 0-12 (0-4 CUNYAC) this season, while Baruch is now 10-3 (3-0 CUNYAC).
The Bloodhounds were led by
Jessica Lirio (Bronx, NY, St. Barnabas) with 19 points to go along with five rebounds, while
Dominique Grice (North Babylon, NY, North Babylon) added six points, 11 rebounds and seven assists.
Baruch grabbed 67 rebounds in the contest, including 34 on the offensive end and outrebounded John Jay 67-45
The visiting Bearcats scored the first 10 points of the game and led 20-2 with 10:23 remaining in the first half.
John Jay hung tight and chipped away at the lead and got it down to seven behind a 13-2 run as the Bloodhounds trailed 22-15 with 4:03 to go.
Claire Prince (Wellington, FL, Summit Christian Academy), who had eight points and five rebounds in the contest, connected on a three point field goal to cap the run.
Baruch immediately responded and took off with a 9-0 spurt to go back up 16 and they led 31-15 with 1:42 to go.
The Bearcats led by as much as 17 in the first half before going into halftime up 34-19.
Baruch, the two-time defending conference champions, kept the Bloodhounds at bay in the second half. They led by as much as 23 over the final 20 minutes of play before the final buzzer.

Kristin Sells who scored 11 off the bench in a balanced attack.
Maria Turner and
Kalea Davis grabbed 10 rebounds each.
John Jay returns to action on Mon. Jan. 11 for a non conference home contest against Vassar College at 5 p.m.
