Women's Soccer Falls at SUNY Maritime

Throggs Neck, N.Y.— The John Jay women's soccer team fell behind by three goals early, before rallying back to tie the score, before losing in the end, as the Bloodhounds were defeated by SUNY Maritime 4-3 at Reinhardt Field on Thursday evening.

With the loss, John Jay is now 2-7-0 overall this season.

The host Privateers scored their three goals within the first thirteen minutes of the game. Sam Easterman netted all three Privateers goals to go ahead 3-0. She scored the first one 3:12 into the contest before scoring again at the 9:49 mark. Easterman completed her hat-trick at 12:56 to put the hosts up by three.

But the Bloodhounds countered with two goals of their own to cut the deficit to 3-2 just before halftime. Stephanie Ibarra (New York, NY, Cathedral) got John Jay on the board early in the thirty-first minute with a goal. John Jay scored again at 38:43 on a strike by Alexis Ochoa (Whittier, CA, La Serna).

John Jay completed the comeback early in the second half when Ochoa scored again at 47:28 to make the score 3-3.

But twenty minutes later SUNY Maritime scored again on a strike by Jorrie Trenkamp which proved to be the game winner at 67:06.

The Bloodhounds outshot SUNY Maritime 18-15, including 13-8 in the first half.

Ochoa led John Jay with nine shots, seven on net.

Yuri Giraldo made five saves in net for the Bloodhounds.

John Jay is back in action on Friday for a match against New York University at 12:30 p.m. at Pier 40.
