Flushing, N.Y.— Just under twenty-four hours removed from capitalizing on its second life, the John Jay women's tennis team was eliminated from the 2010 Hospital for Special Surgery / City University of New York Athletic Conference play as the Bloodhounds were defeated by Hunter College 6-0 at the USTA National Tennis Center on Friday afternoon.
With the loss, John Jay's season ends at 7-9 (5-4 CUNYAC) and a fourth place finish in conference play, its most successful season since the 2007 campaign.
In a match that lasted one hour and twenty-nine minutes, the top seeded Hawks swept all three doubles play.
Ashley Marrero (Bronx, NY, Lehman) and
Lauren Mallon (Staten Island, NY, St. Savioiur) were defeated 8-0 at No. 1 doubles by
Epraksi Yushkova and
Jane Selegean of Hunter. John Jay also lost 8-0 at No. 3 doubles as
Crystal Charles (Elmhurst, NY, August Martin) and
Wilesca Belhomme (Brooklyn, NY, Tilden)fell to
Ericka Jaramillo and
Olga Chagin. The Bloodhounds lost 8-2 at No. 2 doubles as
Jessica Eng (Brooklyn, NY, Fort Hamilton) and
Halam Katherine Seo (Queens, NY, Forest Hills) fell to
Jennifer Kraham and
Arielle Kamin.
Hunter went on to win three singles matches before the match was stopped due to the win. At No. 3 singles, Kraham defeated Eng 6-0, 6-0, before moments later Mallon at No. 2 singles and Seo at No. 4 both lost to end the match.
