New York, N.Y.— After a solid 2010 season that saw the Bloodhounds finish sixth in City University of New York Athletic Conference play, the John Jay College of Criminal Justice men's soccer team will embark on a quest to capture its first ever CUNYAC men's soccer championship.
With their sixth place finish, the No. 6 seed Bloodhounds will play a quarterfinal round match-up against No. 3 seed York College, the defending conference champions, on Wednesday October 27 at 3 p.m.at the York College Soccer Complex.
If the Bloodhounds win, they advance to the conference semifinal round against the winner between No. 2 Hunter College and No. 7 CCNY on Saturday October 30 at the Metropolitan Oval at 8 p.m. A win there and John Jay will play in the finals at the Metropolitan Oval on Saturday November 6.
This season the Bloodhounds battled York to a 2-2 tie when they met on October 2. John Jay finished 3-4-2 overall in conference play which included wins over Medgar Evers, New York City Tech and Brooklyn College. In addition to York, John Jay battled to a tie against the College of Staten Island.
So far this season, the Bloodhounds have been led by their freshman forward
Edward Gonzalez (Palm Bay, FL, Bayside) who has netted 12 goals and an assist to lead the team with 25 points. Fellow teammate and freshman
M. Nasim Allah Morad (Flushing, NY, Flushing International) has also found the back of the mesh frequently with seven goals and 15 points.
Junior
Jason Walker (Windsor, CT, Windsor) has assisted on seven John Jay goals to lead the Bloodhounds in that department. Senior
Steven Castillo (Maspeth, NY, Forest Hills) has also assisted on a bunch of strikes and is second on John Jay with five.
Senior goalkeeper
Kemar Brown (Kingston, Jamaica, Martin Van Buren) has seen over 1,000 minutes in goal this season and has a .620 saves percentage.
This playoff is John Jay's first appearance since the 2007 season, when the Bloodhounds finished third and were upset by No. 6 seed New York City Tech, 3-2.
