Randall's Island, N.Y.— The John Jay women's soccer team played its final game before the conference playoffs this weekend and secured the No. 3 seed in the process as the Bloodhounds played the City College of New York to a 1-1 tie on Thursday afternoon.
With the tie, John Jay is now 2-9-1 (1-4-1 CUNYAC), while CCNY is 1-17-1 (0-5-1 CUNYAC). The Bloodhounds will play No. 2 Medgar Evers College in the semifinal round of the Applebee's / CUNYAC women's soccer championship at the College of Staten Island Soccer Complex at 12 p.m. on Sunday, while CCNY, the No. 4 seed, will face top seed College of Staten Island at 2 p.m. the same day.
On Wednesday's game, the host Beavers got a big break by being the recipient of an own goal at the 51:12 mark that gave them a 1-0 lead.
The Beaver lead was held in tact for the next for a little more than twenty-six minutes before the Bloodhounds knotted the score.
Alexis Ochoa (Whittier, CA, La Serna) netted her team-leading ninth goal of the season late in the seventy-eighth minute.
Neither team scored the rest of the way as John Jay earned its first tie of the season.
The Bloodhounds outshot CCNY 18-16 in the contest, including 6-2 over the twenty minutes of overtime play.
Marcelina Kopec (Staten Island, NY, Franklin D. Rooselvelt) made five saves in the tie.
