New York, N.Y.— After a successful inaugural season that saw the them finish in third place in the regular season, the John Jay women's soccer team is on a quest to win the conference championship as the Bloodhounds are set to compete in the 2010 Applebee's / City University of New York Athletic Conference women's soccer championship.
The Bloodhounds are the No. 3 seed and will face No. 2 seed Medgar Evers College in the semifinal round on Sun. Oct. 31 at 12 p.m. at the College of Staten Island Soccer Complex. If the Bloodhounds win, they advance to the conference championship game and play the winner between No. 1 College of Staten Island and No. 4 City College of New York on Sat. Nov. 7 at the Metropolitan Oval in Maspeth, N.Y.
This season, the Bloodhounds finished third place after going undefeated against CCNY. John Jay earned its first win of the season with a 2-1 triumph over the Beavers on Sept. 8 at the Metropolitan Oval, before salvaging a 1-1 tie in a rematch game on Oct. 28. John Jay also earned a non-conference win against regional foe the College of Mount Saint Vincent on Oct. 7.
So far this season, the Bloodhounds have been led by
Alexis Ochoa (Whittier, CA, La Serna) with nine goals and 19 points, while
Stephanie Ibarra (New York, NY, Cathedral) is second on the team with three goals.
Marcelina Kopec (Staten Island, NY, Franklin D. Rooselvelt) has played 965 minutes in net and has a save percentage of .61.7 percent.
