Brooklyn, N.Y.— The John Jay women's tennis team earned its first clean sweep of the season as the Bloodhounds rolled to a 9-0 win over Medgar Evers College at Old Boys Field on Tuesday afternoon.
With the win, John Jay is now 3-6 (3-2 CUNYAC) this season.
The Bloodhounds swept doubles play as
Elizabeth Cyran (Wood Ridge, NJ, Paramus Catholic) and
Halam Katherine Seo (Queens, NY, Forest Hills) were 8-1 winners at No. 1. At No. 2,
Ashley Marrero (Bronx, NY, Lehman) and
Lauren Mallon (Staten Island, NY, St. Savioiur) won by the same score. Meanwhile
Crystal Charles (Elmhurst, NY, August Martin) and
Jessica Eng (Brooklyn, NY, Fort Hamilton)were 8-0 victors at No. 3.
In singles play, Cyran was a 6-1, 6-2 winner at No. 1, while Marrero defeated her opponent 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2. Mallon was victorious 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3 to give the Bloodhounds a 5-0 lead.
Eng at No. 4, Seo at No. 5 and
Wilesca Belhomme (Brooklyn, NY, Tilden) at No. 6 were all 8-0 winners to complete the sweep.
John Jay returns to action on Wednesday for the continuation of last weeks halted match against Brooklyn College at 4 p.m. John Jay trails 3-2 with four tight matches still to be decided.
