Brooklyn, N.Y.— In what was a tightly contested match after it was halted on Sept. 29 due to darkness, the John Jay women's tennis team went to the final match before pulling out the win as the Bloodhounds defeated Brooklyn College 5-4 at the Brooklyn College Tennis Complex.
With the win, John Jay improves to 4-6 (4-2 CUNYAC) this season.
With five matches done already, Brooklyn had a 3-2 lead.
Jessica Eng (Brooklyn, NY, Fort Hamilton) at No. 4 singles and
Halam Katherine Seo (Queens, NY, Forest Hills) at No. 5 singles both won their matches by maintaining the second set leads they had when play was suspended last time to put John Jay up 4-3.
Lauren Mallon (Staten Island, NY, St. Savioiur), who split sets on Sept. 29, was defeated in the third set today as Brooklyn tied the match at 4-4, leaving only No. 2 singles still up for grabs.
Ashley Marrero (Bronx, NY, Lehman), who lost the first set 6-2, before roaring back to even the set with a 6-1 win last time, completed the comeback by winning her third set today 6-4 to clinch the victory for the Bloodhounds.
John Jay is back in action on Thursday with a match against defending conference champion Hunter College at 3:30 p.m. at the York College Tennis Complex.
