Brockport, N.Y.— The John Jay women's basketball team lost its second game in as many days this season as the Bloodhounds were defeated by Nazareth College 79-61 in the consolation game of the 2010 Golden Eagle Tip-off tournament at SUNY Brockport College.
With the loss, John Jay is now 0-2 this season.
The Bloodhounds were led by
Jessica Lirio, who was named to the All-Tournament team after leading John Jay for the second straight game. She netted 23 points in the contest and just missed her second double-double this season with nine rebounds in the contest.
Dominique Grice added 18 points, six rebounds and five steals.
Chantelle Smith had nine points and five rebounds in the contest.
John Jay committed just 10 turnovers in the contest, but went just 11-for-21 from the free throw line.
The Golden Flyers led from start to finish in the contest. Nazareth College took a 21-point lead in the first half and led 37-16 with 5:23 to play.
But John Jay batted back in the first half on a 12-2 run to close out the stanza and the Bloodhounds were down by just 10 at 39-29.
In the second half Nazareth opened play by knocking down a pair of three point field goals to go up 16 as the Golden Flyers led double-digits the entire second half.
Nazareth led by as much as 25 points in the second half, most recently at 61-44 with 11:14 to go before landing the 18-point win.
Nazareth, who played 17 players, were led by Brittany Wilson with 16 points, while Brittany Patenaude grabbed 10 rebounds.
John Jay is back in action on Tuesday November 23 for a game at FDU-Florham at 5 p.m.
