Women's Basketball Overwhelms College of New Rochelle

New Rochelle, N.Y.— The John Jay women's basketball team forced the College of New Rochelle into fifty-six turnovers en route to defeating the host Blue Angels by sixty-five points as the Bloodhounds were victorious 88-23 on Thursday evening.

With the win, John Jay is 2-3 overall and winners of two in a row. It doubles the Bloodhounds win total from all of last season with twenty games still remaining, and it marks John Jay's first winning streak since winning two in a row in January 2009 (1/23 vs. City Tech and 1/26 vs. NJCU).

John Jay was paced by Jessica Lirio with a season-high 30 points on 11-for-19 shooting. She added six rebounds and five steals in the win. Dominique Grice chipped in with 18 points, six rebounds, five assists and five steals, while Jamecia Forsythe had 14 points, six rebounds, seven steals and four blocks.

The College of New Rochelle was led by Elizabeth Johnston with nine points.

The Bloodhounds out scored New Rochelle 53-7 in points off turnovers and dominated the paint by outscoring the Blue Angels 52-16 inside.

John Jay scored the first nine points of the game and led start to finish. The Bloodhounds led by as much as thirty-three in the opening stanza before going into halftime with a thirty-one point advantage (48-17).

John Jay outscored New Rochelle 40-6 in the second half and kept the Blue Angels off the scoreboard for the final seventeen plus minutes.

The Bloodhounds outscored the hosts 34-0 over the final 17:04 of the contest to finish the game out.

John Jay is back in action on Wed. Dec. 8 for a home contest against New Jersey City University at 5 p.m.
