Baseball Loses Two Games on Season Opening Day

Port Charlotte, Fla.— The 2010 season for the John Jay College of Criminal Justice baseball got underway on Sunday and the Bloodhounds were defeated in two games as the Bloodhounds lost to Capital University 15-5 before falling to John Carroll University 23-0.

In the game against Capital, the Bloodhounds got three hits from freshman Joseph Willoughby (New York, NY, St. Agnes) as he was 3-for-4 with a double a run and an RBI, while Edwin Hernandez (Brooklyn, NY, Murry Bergtraum) was 2-for-4 with a pair of runs.

Nick Catalano (Staten Island, NY, St. Peter's Boys) and Benjamin Beiro (Bronx, NY, Wesley Chapel) both had a hit and an RBI.

The Bloodhounds held Capital to just one hit through the first eight innings, but the young John Jay pitching staff had seven hit batsmen, three wild pitches and 12 walks as Capital scored nine runs through the first eight innings.

Freshman right-handed pitcher Chris Camacho (Maspeth, NY, HS of Applied Communications) picked up the loss in his NCAA debut after going 5.0 innings and allowing eight runs (six earned) on one hit, six walks and four hit batsmen.

Danny LoPresti (Brooklyn, NY, Abraham Lincoln) picked up the loss in the second game after allowing eight runs over two innings against John Carroll.

Beiro was 1-for-4 with a double in the nightcap.
