Women's Basketball Loses Final Away and Non Conference Game of Season at Ramapo

Mahwah, N.J.— The John Jay women's basketball team closed out its 2009-10 road and non conference schedule with a loss on Monday as the Bloodhounds were defeated by Ramapo College 60-38 at the Bradley Center.

John Jay has two games remaining on their schedule, both conference games at home which include contests against Medgar Evers on Wednesday and Hunter College on Friday.

Against Ramapo, Jessica Lirio (Bronx, NY, St. Barnabas) led the way with 16 points, while Dominique Grice (North Babylon, NY, North Babylon) added 10 in the contest.

The Bloodhounds stayed with the host Roadrunners through the early portion of the first half. John Jay was ahead 10-8 with 10:59 to go before Ramapo used a run that gave the Roadrunners the lead for good.

Ramapo went on a 13-3 run to take a 21-13 lead with 4:50 to go and the Roadrunners never looked back.

John Jay cut the deficit to as little as four late in the first half as the Bloodhounds were down 26-22 with 1:27 to go after a Grice jumper. But Ramapo closed out the opening stanza with a 5-0 spurt to go up 31-22 at halftime.

The Bloodhounds stayed with Ramapo for the early portion of the second half and were back within four after a 5-0 run of their own.

But the Roadrunners outscored John Jay 22-3 after that to break the game open and Ramapo was up 53-30 with just under five minutes remaining.

Ramapo led by as much as 24 in the final minute before the 22-point decision.

The Roadrunners were led by Stephanie Cannizzaro with 18 points off the bench as Ramapo outscored the Bloodhounds 26-8 in points off the bench and 21-6 on points off turnovers.

John Jay outrebounded Ramapo 44-43 and got a team-high 11 from Zadoora Carson (New York, NY, Urban Peace Academy). Ramapo was led by Danielle Beam with a game-high 12 boards.
