Baseball Defeats Drew

Madison, N.J. - With senior captain Edwin Hernandez hitting the first pitch of the game over the fence, John Jay baseball had an explosive first inning to set the tone for its 6-4 win over Drew.  The Bloodhounds scored three runs in the first inning and never lost the lead, improving to 2-8 on the season, while the Rangers fell to 1-7.

With a lead-off home run, captain Hernandez made the score 1-0 for the Bloodhounds. Three batters later, junior first baseman Wilmer Chavez hit a two-run homer that built John Jay's lead to 3 -0.

The Bloodhounds added a run in the second inning and then coasted behind the pitching of freshman Chris Camacho (2 - 0) who gave up only one run going into the eighth inning.

Drew staged a comeback in the eighth inning, scoring three runs, but freshman pitcher Dan LoPresti came in to put out the fire, ending the eighth inning and throwing a one-two-three ninth inning, earning the first save of his career.

Hernandez went two for five  with two runs scored and two RBI.  Freshman Dennis Lopez went two for three at the plate.

Drew catcher, sophomore Tom Murray went two for five with two doubles.

John Jay will be in action tomorrow vs. St. Joe's of Brooklyn at New Dorp H.S in Staten Island at 3:30.
