Baseball Loses Heartbreaker to Rutgers-Camden

Camden, N.J. – Having a 4-3 lead going into the bottom of the ninth inning, the Bloodhounds couldn't hold on to the win, falling 5-4 after a two-run walk-off homerun by Rutgers-Camden.  John Jay returns to action again tomorrow, Thursday, March 25th, traveling to Rutgers-Newark for a make-up game.  The contest will begin at 3:30 p.m.
 
After a scoreless first inning, the Bloodhounds took a 2-0 lead off a two-run homer by sophomore Steven Kendrick.  The Scarlet Raptors got one of those runs back in the bottom of the third, tied the game in the bottom of the fifth and took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the sixth.
 
John Jay took the lead back in the top of the seventh, scoring two more runs to make it 4-3.  Kendrick led off the inning, getting to first base after getting hit by a pitch.  Senior captain Luis Guzman then hit Kendrick to second with a sacrifice play.  Freshman Dennis Lopez followed up with a walk, putting runners at first and second.  Hector Class then singled to left field, loading up the bases.  With two outs freshman Nick Catalano singled to centerfield, driving in Kendrick and Lopez for the lead.
 
The Bloodhounds took their one-point lead into the bottom of the ninth inning but with one out and one runner on base, Jon Hydock sent a ball out of the park down the right field line to win it for Rutgers-Camden.
 
Freshman Chris Camacho suffered the loss for John Jay, dropping his record to 2-4.
 
Kendrick finished the day going two-for-three with two RBI while Catalano also had two RBI for John Jay.
