Baseball Falls at Rutgers-Newark

Newark, N.J.— The John Jay baseball team lost a contest on the road Thursday afternoon as the Bloodhounds fell to Rutgers-Newark University 17-3 at Bears and Eagles Riverfront Stadium.

John Jay is now 2-13 on the season.

The host Scarlet-Raiders scored a run in the bottom of the first and five more in the third to lead 6-0 after three.

Rutgers-Newark proceeded to scored four in the fourth, six in the fifth and one in the sixth to go up 17-0.

The Bloodhounds got three across in the top of the eighth.

Xavier Perez (Bronx, NY, Manhattan Center) was 2-for-4 in the game, while Edwin Hernandez (Brooklyn, NY, Murry Bergtraum), Nick Catalano (Staten Island, NY, St. Peter's Boys), Wilmer Chavez (Corona, NY, Queens Vocational), Benjamin Beiro (Bronx, NY, Wesley Chapel) and Luis Guzman (Yonkers, NY, Mt. St. Michael's) had one hit each.

Chris Camacho (Maspeth, NY, HS of Applied Communications) suffered the loss after going 2.1 innings and allowed five runs on three hits.

John Jay is back in action on Sat. Mar. 27 for their 2010 conference opener against Baruch, noon at Legion Field.
