John Jay Loses Two to Hunter

Staten Island, N.Y.— The John Jay softball team was defeated in a pair of games against conference rival Hunter College as the Bloodhounds lost the first game 9-1 in six innings via the mercy rule and lost a high scoring affair in game two 16-14 in a game that was called with one out in the top of the seventh because of darkness.

With the losses, John Jay is now 9-9 (7-7 CUNYAC) this season.

In game one, the Bloodhounds had a run on three hits. The Bloodhounds had one hit each from Christina Perez, Kim Bifulco and Nina Chao. John Jay's lone run came in the fourth inning, where they got all three of their hits. An RBI double by Chao brought home Perez for the John Jay run.

Angela Lam suffered the game one loss after going 5.0 innings and allowed eight runs (six earned) on seven hits.

In game two, the Bloodhounds slugged 14 hits in a game that saw 27 total hits.

Marina Gomez had three hits for John Jay and was 3-for-3 with a homerun, three runs and five RBI. Meanwhile Cassandra Velez, Perez, Chao and Lam had two hits each.

John Jay had a big sixth inning when, down 11-6, exploded for eight runs to take a 14-11 lead. The Bloodhounds sent 13 batters to the plate and had momentum.

But Hunter answered with five in the bottom half to retake the lead before darkness set upon the day ending the game.

John Jay is back in action on Thu. Apr. 15 at Stockton College at 3:30 p.m.
