Old Westbury, N.Y.— The John Jay baseball team allowed at least one run in each of the first six innings to fall behind early as they fell on the road losing to SUNY Old Westbury 12-5 at the Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex on Wednesday.
John Jay is now 6-23 overall this season.
The Bloodhounds scored a run in the top of the first to take a 1-0 lead.
Wilmer Chavez (Corona, NY, Queens Vocational), who was 2-for-3 with two RBI hit a single to leftfield to score
Xavier Perez (Bronx, NY, Manhattan Center) who recorded a two-out double to start the rally.
But the host Panthers scored two runs in the bottom of the first to go ahead 2-1. SUNY Old Westbury then scored a run in the second, and another in the third. The Panthers then scored three in the fourth, one in the fifth and four in the sixth to lead 12-1.
The Bloodhounds knocked in four runs in the top of the seventh and trailed 12-5. Perez landed the big hit, a triple to right-center to score
Edwin Hernandez (Brooklyn, NY, Murry Bergtraum) and
Nick Catalano (Staten Island, NY, St. Peter's Boys).
Perez then scored via another RBI by Chavez, a sacrifice fly, his team-leading sixth of the season. Earlier in the inning, a single by Catalano scored
Dennis Lopez (Selden, NY, Newfield).
The Bloodhounds had nine hits in the contest, including two by Perez, Chavez and
Steven Kendrick (Bronx, NY, Sacred Heart).
Chris Camacho (Maspeth, NY, HS of Applied Communications) suffered the loss. He pitched 3.2 innings and allowed seven runs (six earned) on eight hits.
