Softball Swept at Manhattanville

Purchase, N.Y.— The John Jay softball team lost a pair of game at Manhattanville College on Tuesday afternoon, losing the first game 8-0 before falling in the nightcap 12-4.

In the first game, the Bloodhounds were limited to two baserunners.

Manhattanville punched across five runs in the third and three more in the fourth to take an 8-0 lead after four innings and win via the mercy rule.

In the second game, the Bloodhound bats came alive and John Jay, after Manhattanville took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, scored four runs in the top of the second to go up 4-1.

Nelly Vega (Bronx, NY, In-Tech Academy), who was 2-for-3 with two doubles, a run and two RBI ripped a two-run double to rightcenter to bring home Sarah Balgobin (South Ozone Park, NY, John Adams) and Cassandra Velez (Gaithersburg, MD, Gaithersburg) to give John Jay a 2-1 lead.

Later, Angela Lam (Brooklyn, NY, Newtown) scored from third on a wild pitch, then Vega crossed home on a throwing error by the Valiants.

Manhattanville though came back with eight runs in the bottom of the second to retake the lead and win the contest The hosts scored another in the fourth and two in the fifth to take an eight run lead and win via the mercy rule.

The Bloodhounds had six hits in the second game, including two from Kim Bifulco (Staten Island, NY, St. John Villa) who was 2-for-3 with a double in game two.

John Jay returns to action on Thu. Apr. 8 for a home doubleheader against York College at 3:30 p.m.
