Brooklyn, N.J.— The John Jay baseball team suffered one of its most lopsided home losses in years as the Bloodhounds were defeated by the College of Mount Saint Vincent 20-4 at American Legion Field on Thursday afternoon.
The Bloodhounds allowed seven runs in the first inning to fall behind 7-0 before coming to the plate. The visiting Dolphins a run in the third and five in the fifth to go up 13-0.
John Jay got on the board in the bottom of inning number five with a solo homerun by
Benjamin Beiro (Bronx, NY, Wesley Chapel). The Bloodhounds tacked on two more later in the fifth on a two run single by
Luis Guzman (Yonkers, NY, Mt. St. Michael's).
But Mount Saint Vincent kept up the pressure and scored seven more times over the final four innings to secure the win.
John Jay used seven pitchers in the loss.
Alex Rodriguez (Bronx, NY, Adlai E. Stevenson) suffered the loss after going one inning and allowing seven runs on five hits in the first inning.
Edwin Hernandez (Brooklyn, NY, Murry Bergtraum)and
Dennis Lopez (Selden, NY, Newfield) had three hits each for John Jay.
Mount Saint Vincent was led by catcher
John McManus who was 4-for-6 with a grand slam homerun, three runs and six RBI.
John Jay's immediate attention will come back to conference play to face more Dolphins. This time the Bloodhounds face CUNYAC foe the College of Staten Island Dolphins on Saturday for a doubleheader in Staten Island before coming back to Legion Field for a single game on Sunday at noon.
