Baseball Loses High Scoring Affair to Stevens Institute of Technology

Hoboken, N.J.— The John Jay baseball team was defeated by Stevens Institute of Technology 21-12 at Dobbelaar Field on Tuesday evening.

With the loss, John Jay is now 11-30 with one game remaining this season.

Despite losing, the Bloodhounds supplied plenty of offense in the loss. They pounded out 17 hits in the contest and were led by Wilmer Chavez (Corona, NY, Queens Vocational) who was 2-for-4 with a grand slam, a run and five RBI. Edwin Hernandez (Brooklyn, NY, Murry Bergtraum) had three hits in the game with a run, a double and two RBI. Steven Kendrick (Bronx, NY, Sacred Heart) blasted a homerun as well in the game.

John Jay led 2-0 early after scoring a pair in the top of the first, but the Duck scored six in the bottom half to take the lead.

Stevens led 15-5 going into the seventh inning, but the Bloodhounds got seven runs across to pull to within three. Chavez's grand slam highlighted the inning.

But the Duck came back with five in the bottom half to pull ahead by eight.

Alex Rodriguez (Bronx, NY, Adlai E. Stevenson) suffered the loss after going two innings and allowing eight runs on seven hits.

The Bloodhounds wrap up their 2010 season with a home game at MCU Park against St. Joseph's-Brooklyn at 3:30 p.m.
