Hoboken, N.J.— The John Jay College of Criminal Justice baseball team officially wrapped up its 2010 season on Saturday with a pair of losses as John Jay was defeated by Stevens Institute of Technology 11-2 in the first game and 10-0 in the second game.
With the losses, John Jay ends its season at 12-32 overall and a second place finish in City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) regular season play with a 6-6 mark.
In the first game, a nine inning contest, John Jay's lone two runs came in the eighth inning.
Xavier Perez (Bronx, NY, Manhattan Center), who was 3-for-3 with a triple, spoiled the Ducks' game one shutout with a triple to score
Nick Catalano (Staten Island, NY, St. Peter's Boys). Then moments later, Perez scored on a throwing error by the Stevens pitcher.
The Ducks scored five runs in the second inning, three in the fifth, two in the sixth and another in the seventh to go up by 11 before John Jay's pair in the eighth inning.
In the second game, John Jay was held to three hits, including one each by Perez,
Wilmer Chavez (Corona, NY, Queens Vocational)and
Dennis Lopez (Selden, NY, Newfield).
The Ducks scored a run in the first, two in the second, three in the third and four in the fourth to lead 10-0 after four frames before winning the seven inning affair by that score.
Perez, after going a combined 4-for-6 ended the season with a .412 batting average and eight triples to lead the team. Chavez ended with a .395 average.
