Brooklyn, N.Y.— Freshman forward Edward Gonzalez (Bayside, FL, Bayside) netted his second hat-trick of the season. This one in the first forty-five minutes of the game as the John Jay men's soccer team opened a 3-0 first half lead and led start to finish in a dominating effort as the Bloodhounds defeated Medgar Evers College 5-3 in a City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) contest at Aviator Field on Wednesday.

With the win, John Jay is now 4-1 (1-0 CUNYAC) and has won four matches in a row.

The Bloodhounds outshot the host Cougars 14-3 in the first half and were in control of the contest from the outset.

Gonzalez's first of three first half goals came early in the thirty-first minute. His second goal came just minutes later off perfectly led passes from Bryan Kassebaum (Valley Stream, NY, Kellenberg Memorial) and Steven Castillo (Maspeth, NY, Forest Hills) to put the Bloodhounds up by a pair. Then with just under three minutes to go before halftime, Gonzalez scored his conference and team-leading ninth goal of the season to give the Bloodhounds a three goal lead at halftime.

In the second half, John Jay remained on the attack. Kareem Roberts (St. Albans, NY, William Taft) put John Jay up by four at the 53:39 mark with a goal. Then Jeimy Polo (Miami, FL, Forest Hills)scored the fifth goal for the Bloodhounds in the sixty-second minute as John Jay led 5-0.

Medgar Evers fought back late and netted three goals in the final thirty minutes, but the Bloodhounds five goal lead proved too much to overcome.

Kemar Brown (Kingston, Jamaica, Martin Van Buren)made four saves for the Bloodhounds.

John Jay returns to action on Sat. Sept. 18 against New York University at 7 p.m.
