Women's Soccer Loses to Medgar Evers College

Brooklyn, N.Y.— The John Jay women's soccer team suffered its first conference loss of the season as the Bloodhounds were defeated by Medgar Evers College, 6-2, at Aviator Field on Wednesday afternoon.

With the loss, John Jay is now 1-2 (1-1 CUNYAC).

The Bloodhounds fell behind early in the contest as the host Cougars cashed in on a pair of goals in the first half. Medgar Evers' Kathy Salcedo scored two of her three goals in the first half to put her team up by a pair. She connected on the first goal 7:34 into the contest, before scoring again at 14:56.

But John Jay stormed right back and tied the game before halftime. John Jay's Alexis Ochoa (Whittier, CA, La Serna) scored her second goal of the season by scoring off a penalty kick in the thirtieth minute of play. Then ten minutes later freshman defender Stephanie Ibarra (New York, NY, Cathedral)netted her first goal of the season from a Giselle Linares (Richmond Hill, NY, Thomas Edison Vocational)pass to tie the score at 2-2.

But the second half was all Cougars. Medgar Evers netted four goals in the second half and outplayed the Bloodhounds over the final forty-five minutes. The Cougars outshot the Bloodhounds 17-1 in the second half and 25-6 overall.

Marcelina Kopec (Staten Island, NY, Franklin D. Rooselvelt)made seven saves in net for John Jay.

John Jay returns to action on Tue, Sept. 21 at the College of Staten Island at 3:30 p.m.
