Maspeth, N.Y.— The John Jay women's soccer team fell to Medgar Evers College on Saturday afternoon as the Bloodhounds were defeated by the Cougars 5-1 at the Metropolitan Oval.
With the loss, John Jay is now 1-4-0 (1-3-0 CUNYAC) overall, while Medgar Evers improves to 5-4-1 (2-0-0 CUNYAC) this season, and completed a season sweep of the Bloodhounds.
The visiting Cougars got the on scoreboard in the fourth minute when
Kathy Salcedo hit the back of the net 3:28 into the contest. But in the sixteenth minute,
Shakera Ho-Sang scored her first of three goals in the contest at 15:14 to put the Cougars up by a pair
The Bloodhounds finally got on the board at 32:29 when Medgar Evers was called for a handball inside the box, resulting in a penalty kick.
Alexis Ochoa (Whittier, CA, La Serna) scored her team-leading third goal of the season with the kick that cut the deficit in half.
But Medgar Evers scored three more goals in the final forty-five minutes to take a 5-1 lead and win the game.
Sasha Moore scored at the 59:06 mark before Ho-Sang completed her hat-trick with the game's last two goals.
Medgar Evers outshot John Jay 20-8. Ochoa and
Stephanie Ibarra (New York, NY, Cathedral) nailed three shots each in the contest.
Marcelina Kopec (Staten Island, NY, Franklin D. Rooselvelt) made nine saves for the Bloodhounds.
John Jay is back in action on Thu. Oct. 7 for a match against the College of Mount Saint Vincent.
