Maspeth, N.Y.— The John Jay men's soccer team met a revved up Baruch squad who scored a pair of goals early to take control of the match and led 3-0 midway through the second half before the Bloodhounds scored two goals late but ran out of time as John Jay was defeated by the Bearcats 3-2 at the Metropolitan Oval on Wednesday evening.
With the loss, John Jay falls to 5-5-0 (2-2-0 CUNYAC) and have lost four of its last five matches, while Baruch is now 5-4-1 (2-2-0 CUNYAC) this season.
Baruch scored the first goal of the game twelve minutes in on a strike by
Valiantsin Kirykovich. And the visitors struck again in the twenty-first minute when
Ibek Abdrahmanov scored to put Baruch up by a pair.
The game went into halftime with Baruch maintaining the lead.
Baruch then scored what turned out to be the game winner via a penalty kick when
Jonas Juozitis put one in in the sixty-fifth minute.
But the Bloodhounds battled back and got back in the game.
First
M. Nasim Allah Morad (Flushing, NY, Flushing International) took a well directed pass by
Ray Sanicola (East Meadow, NY, St. Anthony's) to the near sideline and drilled it home to get the Bloodhounds on the board.
Moments later,
Jason Walker (Windsor, CT, Windsor)drilled home a direct kick over the Baruch wall just under the crossbar out of the reach of goalkeeper
Michael Murphy, who made two saves in the contest.
The save of the night however was made by defenseman
Bryan Kassebaum (Valley Stream, NY, Kellenberg Memorial). With the Bloodhounds trailing 3-0, Abdrahmanov fired a low kick which appeared to be heading into an open net. But Kassebaum chased it over fifteen yards before kicking it away inches before it went in.
Kemar Brown (Kingston, Jamaica, Martin Van Buren) made four saves for John Jay.
Baruch outshot John Jay 12-8. The Bloodhounds are currently in fifth place in the conference standings with six points.
John Jay returns to action on Sat. Oct. 2 for a match at York College at 12 p.m.
