Purchase, N.Y.— The John Jay women's soccer team played their first game in program history after a five year hiatus and despite a valiant effort fell short, losing 2-0 at SUNY Purchase on Friday afternoon.
The Bloodhounds (0-1) were out-shot 12-5 in the contest and had two shots each from
Stephanie Ibarra (New York, NY, Cathedral) and
Alexis Ochoa (Whittier, CA, La Serna).
Giselle Linares (Richmond Hill, NY, Thomas Edison Vocational) recorded the other.
The host Panthers scored a goal each in the first and second half. SUNY Purchase got on the board with a goal at the 17:05 mark on a strike by
Abigail Katz off a corner kick. In the eighty-first minute SUNY Purchase scored again when
Marisa Corson connected on a breakaway to put the Panthers up by a pair.
Purchase took four corner kicks to John Jay's three.
Yuri Giraldo (Woodside, NY, Long Island City)played the first half in goal, before giving way to
Marcelina Kopec (Staten Island, NY, Franklin D. Rooselvelt) who played the final forty-five minutes. Both allowed a goal each. Giraldo made one save in net, while Kopec stopped a pair.
John Jay is back in action on Wed. Sept. 8 for a home contest against CCNY at 4 p.m. at the Medtropolitan Oval.
