New York, N.Y.— The John Jay women's basketball team lost a non conference affair at home Monday evening as the Bloodhounds fell to Rutgers-Newark University 81-58.
With the loss, John Jay is now 3-9 overall this season, while Rutgers-Newark improved to 13-2.
The Bloodhounds trailed throughout the contest. The visiting Scarlet Raiders scored the first seven points of the contest in the first fifty seconds to lead 7-0 with 19:10 to go.
Rutgers-Newark gradually pulled away from the Bloodhounds during the duration of the first half getting points inside and limiting John Jay to just 18.9 percent shooting from the floor through the first twenty minutes.
The Scarlet Raiders outscored the Bloodhounds 60-32 on points in the paint, including 34-10 in the first half.
Rutgers-Newark led by as much as twenty-one in the first half and led 45-24 at halftime.
The Bloodhounds trailed by twenty-plus points for most of the second half. John Jay got to within as little as 18 when they trailed 68-50 with just over seven minutes to go, but never any closer.
John Jay was led by
Dominique Grice with 22 points and 10 rebounds, while
Jamecia Forsythe added 10 and 13 rebounds.
Jessica Lirio had 12 points for the Bloodhounds.
Rutgers-Newark was led by Kristen Venning with 25 points and seven rebounds. Jasmine Daniels added eight points and 12 boards for the Scarlet Raiders.
John Jay returns to action on Wed. Jan. 12 for a home contest against the City College of New York at 5 p.m.
