Jamaica, N.Y.— The John Jay women's swimming team, swimming for the first time since late November, picked up a win on Monday evening as the Bloodhounds defeated York College 98-89 at the York College Pool on Monday evening.
With the win, John Jay improves to 2-4 overall and 1-3 in City University of New York Athletic Conference meets.
The Bloodhounds fell behind early after York won the opening race (200 meter medley relay) as the Cardinals led 11-4.
But
Kaili Insalaco scored a win in the 800 meter freestyle (12:58.80) to get the Bloodhounds back to within four points as they trailed 15-11.
Insalaco then picked up another win in the 200 meter freestyle (2:48.05).
John Jay then finished second, third and fourth respectively in the 50 meter freestyle as
Vanessa Toro-Plaza (33.64), Keisha Hacker (36.40) and
Jennifer Santanello (42.82) earned the Bloodhounds a combined nine points in the event.
Toro-Plaza later won the 100 meter freestyle (1:20.18), before Insalaco picked up her third win of the event with a victory in the 400 meter freestyle (6:04.53), while
Billie Jean Kuppler was second (6:46.89).
John Jay led 87-85 with just one event remaining (200 meter free relay). The team of Toro-Plaza,
Jezebel Erazo, Hacker and Kuppler earned the win (2:26.90) by nearly a minute over the York team to secure the win.
John Jay is back in action on Thu. Jan. 13 for a home meet against Baruch College at 6 p.m.
