Brooklyn, N.Y.— The John Jay women's basketball team had its five game winning streak snapped on Thursday evening as the Bloodhounds were defeated by Brooklyn College 78-68 at Brooklyn College's West Quad Center.
The loss drops the Bloodhounds to 8-10 (5-3 CUNYAC) this season.
Despite the loss, four players notched double figures for the Bloodhounds and were led by
Jamecia Forsythe with 18 points and a game-high 17 rebounds.
Jessica Lirio added 15 points and six assists in the contest.
Chantelle Smith and
Dominique Grice had 14 points each.
The host Bulldogs scored the first seven points of the game en route to leading from start to finish.
Brooklyn College led by as much a 19 in the first half and led by 16 at halftime with a 36-20 lead.
The Bulldogs eventually led by as much as twenty-two points in the second half and had a 61-39 advantage with 9:27 to go.
But the Bloodhounds did not go away. They battled back and made a game of it in the later stages.
After falling behind by twenty-two, the Bloodhounds raced off a 10-0 run to pull to within twelve points of the lead with 6:50 to go on a fastbreak lay-up by Grice.
Brooklyn College answered with a quick 4-0 spurt, but the Bloodhounds countered with a 7-1 spurt to dwindle the deficit down to 10 with 4:20 to play.
John Jay eventually got the lead down to as little as six and were down 74-68 with forty-five seconds to go.
But the Bloodhounds failed to score the rest of the way and Brooklyn scored the final four points of the game.
Brooklyn was led by Justine O'Callahan with 23 points and 14 rebounds.
John Jay returns to action on Friday for a contest at Medgar Evers College at 6 p.m.
