Brooklyn, N.Y.— The John Jay women's basketball team opened a huge lead early in the contest and led 45-12 at halftime and coasted the rest of the way en route to winning for the sixth time in its last seven games with a 71-57 win over Medgar Evers College at the Cougars Cave on Friday evening.
With the win, the Bloodhounds improve to 9-10 (6-3 CUNYAC) on the season.
John Jay was led by
Jessica Lirio with 22 points off the bench on 10-for-14 shooting, while
Dominique Grice also came off the bench and scored 12 and added seven steals.
Jamecia Forsythe had 11 points and 11 rebounds in the win.
The Bloodhounds never trailed in the contest. They scored the first seven points of the game and were up by double figures with less than eight minutes gone by and led 13-2 with 12:21 to go.
In the first half alone, the Bloodhounds outscored the Cougars 28-8 on points in the paint and 22-2 on points off turnovers.
Medgar Evers were forced into 20 turnovers in the first half alone.
In the second half, John Jay led by as much as thirty-eight and was up 69-31 with 6:35 to play.
Medgar Evers to cut into the lead in the latter stages of the contest and closed out the game on a 26-2 run against the Bloodhound reserves to make the score much closer than it was.
The Cougars suited up five players who played the entire contest. Medgar Evers was led by Yvanna Jack with 21 points and 27 rebounds, followed by Brooke Harris with 16 points and seven boards.
Overall, John Jay outscored the Cougars 44-26 on points in the paint and held a 28-14 advantage on points off turnovers.
