New York, N.Y.— The John Jay women's basketball team was defeated at the Doghouse on Wednesday evening as the Bloodhounds lost to Baruch College 93-58.

With the loss, John Jay is now 3-7 (1-1 CUNYAC) overall this season, while Baruch is now 8-3 (2-0 CUNYAC).

The Bloodhounds were led by Jessica Lirio with a game-high 26 points, followed by Dominique Grice, Jamecia Forsythe and Chantelle Smith with eight points each. Forsythe grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds for John Jay.

Baruch was led by Megan Bouwens with 18 points, followed by Folashade Akinde with 17 points and 10 rebounds.

The Bloodhounds went toe-to-toe with the defending CUNYAC champions in the first half. The first half saw five ties and a pair of lead changes. John Jay led by as much as four in the first half and were up 14-10 with 13:03 to play.

The two teams stayed within an arms length of each other for most of the first half. The score was tied at 29-29 with 5:57 to play before the Bearcats quickly used a 16-5 run to open up an 11-point lead with 2:25 to go.

With the help of 16 offensive rebounds in the first half, and outrebounding John Jay 32-15 overall through the first twenty minutes, Baruch managed to outscore the Bloodhounds 16-2 in second chance points before going into halftime up 49-40.

Baruch opened the second half on a 6-0 run to take a 15-point lead, and the Bearcats never led by less than double figures the rest of the way.

The Bearcats gradually increased the lead in the final stanza, en route to outscoring John Jay 40-18 in the second half.

For the contest, Baruch outscored John Jay 52-28 on points in the paint and 27-6 on second chance points. The Bearcats also held a 33-4 advantage in points off the bench.

John Jay is back in action on Friday January 7 at Lehman College at 3:30 p.m.
