Bronx, N.Y.— The John Jay women's basketball team was slow to develop in the first half and fell behind by twenty before rallying back in the second half to make a game of it before running out of gas in the late stages as the Bloodhounds were defeated by Lehman College 69-55 at Lehman's Apex Arena on Friday.

With the loss, John Jay is now 3-8 (1-2 CUNYAC) this season.

Midway through the first half saw the score tied 13-13 with 10:10 remaining, before the host Lightning exploded through the final ten minutes of the opening stanza.

Lehman gradually pulled away and turned the game into what became a high scoring affair. The Lightning quickly outscored the Bloodhounds 29-9 over the final 10:10 and went into halftime up 42-22.

The Bloodhounds quickly got back into the game in the second half. They outscored Lehman 21-7 through the first eight minutes of the stanza and were down 49-43 with just over twelve minutes remaining.

Moments later, after Lehman retook a double-digit lead, John Jay dug even closer and pulled to within four and the Bloodhounds were down 53-49 with 9:49 to go leaving themselves very much in the contest.

But that was as close as the Bloodhounds would get as Lehman managed to hold off the Bloodhound charge down the stretch. The Lightning, leading 57-52 with 7:37 to go, used a 7-0 run to go back up by double-digits, and Lehman led 64-52 with 4:37 to go.

John Jay managed to pull to within nine points with just over two minutes to go, but not enough as Lehman held on.

Jessica Lirio led the Bloodhounds with 25 points in the contest, while Jamecia Forsythe had eight points and 16 rebounds.

Lehman was led by Louvinia Hayes with 40 points, 13 rebounds and seven steals.

John Jay is back in action on Monday for a home game against Rutgers-Newark at 5 p.m.
