Maspeth, N.Y.— John Jay and York men's soccer teams went toe-to-toe in what was arguably the most exciting men's soccer games this year, but the Bloodhounds fell an eyelash short in the end as York College scored the game winning goal in the final minute of overtime to defeat the Bloodhounds 3-2 at the Metropolitan Oval.

The loss puts John Jay at 1-10-2 (1-3-0 CUNYAC) this season, while York improves to 2-10-0 (2-2-0 CUNYAC).

In the end it turned out to be an evenly played match according to the statistical finals, as all final statistics were similar. John Jay outshot York 20-17 overall, while both starting goalkeepers made seven saves each. York took just one more corner kick than John Jay (7-6).

But despite the even stats in the end, it was a match of two halves. The visiting Cardinals jumped all over the Bloodhounds in the early stages of the first half. York had the ball in John Jay's end of the field for a majority of the first half. The Cardinals held a 4-0 edge on corner kicks in the process as well.

In the fourteenth minute of play, the Cardinals scored the first goal of the game when McLaney Moise put one in the net at the 13:20 stage of the contest.

Despite outplaying the Bloodhounds in the first half, Moise's goal was the only one scored by either team after the first forty-five minutes of play as York went into halftime leading 1-0.

In the second half, the Bloodhounds came out attacking. A mere 1:13 into the second half, John Jay tied the score as Edward Gonzalez put one home to change the complexion of the game.

The Bloodhounds continued applying pressure on York and thoroughly outplayed the Cardinals for most of the second half. John Jay took several shots from point blank range, but could not get it into the net.

Late in the second half though, York caught one of the few breaks it got and capitalized as Manard Millus put home a go ahead goal with 2:30 to go in regulation putting the Bloodhounds in a tight spot.

But in the final minute of regulation, Gonzalez scored his second goal of the game to tie it at 2-2 and eventually send it into overtime.

In the extra session, John Jay appeared to have won the game on a would be hat-trick by Gonzalez, but his goal in the second overtime was disallowed because of an off sides call that kept the game going.

Then in the final minute, Millus netted the game winner literally just underneath the crossbar, a mere few inches over the line to win it for the Cardinals.

John Jay returns to action on Wednesday for a game at the College of Staten Island at 3:30 p.m.
