Throggs Neck, N.Y.— John Jay College women's soccer team was defeated by SUNY Maritime 2-1 on Thursday evening in the Bloodhounds' final regular season contest before the 2011 conference championship.

With the loss, John Jay falls to 6-13-0 overall with one regular season game remaining at Yeshiva University on November 8.

On Thursday, after a scoreless first half, the host Privateers netted a pair of goals within a one minute, thirty-four second time span with the same pair of players hooking up. SUNY Maritime took the lead on a goal by Jorrie Trenkamp off a helper by Kadie Hook 2:19 into the second half. Then at 48:53, Trencamp scored again with another assist coming from Hook to put the Privateers up 2-0.

The Bloodhounds cut the deficit in half when reigning Player of the Week, Brenda Pitts found the net at the 60:50 stage of the contest.

But that was as close as the Bloodhounds would get as Privateer goalkeeper Courtney Marietta made five saves in the contest which proved to be enough.

Marcelina Kopec made four saves for the Bloodhounds in the contest.

SUNY Maritime outshot the Bloodhounds 13-12 in the contest, including 5-4 in the first half. Both teams attempted eight shots in the second half. Pitts and Alexis Ochoa combined for nine of the 12 shots. Ochoa took a game co-high five, while Pitts took four.

The Privateers, who avenged a 4-2 loss to John Jay on Sept. 14, got five shots from Trenkamp.

The Bloodhounds, the No. 3 seed for the 2011 CUNYAC / Applebee's women's soccer championship, will face No. 2 seed the City College of New York on Wednesday Nov. 2 on Randall's Island at a time to be determined.
