Staten Island, N.Y.— The John Jay men's soccer team scored two first half goals, and it proved to be more than enough as starting goalkeeper Steven Merino made four saves for his first shutout of the season as the Bloodhounds powered past the College of Staten Island (CSI) 2-0 at the CSI Soccer Complex on Wednesday afternoon.

The win improves the Bloodhounds to 2-10-2 (2-3-0 CUNYAC) this season, and snaps their five match winless streak.

John Jay's two goals came midway through the first half and within three and a half minutes of each other.

The Bloodhounds' first goal came off the foot of Ganama Issouf off a free kick at the 20:49 marker to put John Jay ahead 1-0. Then at the 24:13 point of the first half, freshman Rashid Allah Morad netted the first goal of his NCAA career off a corner kick placed by Korede Griffith.

After going into halftime up 2-0, John Jay and the host Dolphins played the final forty-five minutes scoreless as the Bloodhounds picked up their fourth, fifth and sixth points in the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) men's soccer standings.

John Jay outshot CSI 18-14 in the contest, including 13-5 in the first half to set the tempo. The two teams each took four corner kicks in the match.
