Women’s Swimming Swims Faster than Lightning

New York, N.Y.— The John Jay women's swimming team is now 2-0 on the season as the Bloodhounds quickly defeated the Lehman College Lightning 74-21 at the John Jay Pool on Tuesday evening.
 
John Jay won 11 of the 13 races on the card and led from start to finish.
 
The Bloodhounds got things in gear in the first race, the 200 yard medley relay with the team of Catherine Gomez, Justina Morales, Samantha Valenzuela and Mollie DeMaio. After trailing by eight seconds after the first heat, the Bloodhounds got into gear and narrowed the deficit. They got the margin six seconds after the second heat before tying the race after the third. Then on the anchor, DeMaio powered home to secure the victory and put the Bloodhounds up 7-0.
 
John Jay proceeded to win the next two races and lead 21-4 after three events. Kaili Insalaco took first place in the 1000 freestyle, before Kaylie Bruce won the 200 yard freestyle.
 
After just missing the win in the 50 yard freestyle, the Bloodhounds rallied off wins in the next three races. Samantha Valenzuela won the 200 yard individual medley, before winning again in the 100 yard butterfly. Then in the next race, Jezebel Erazo picked up the win in the 100 yard freestyle.
 
The Bloodhounds also earned wins in the 500 yard freestyle and 100 yard breaststroke, before the freestyle relay team closed out the meet with another win. Insalaco powered home to victory in the 500 yard freestyle, while Justina Morales earned a win in the 100 yard breaststroke.
 
Then in the final event, Vanessa Toro-Plaza, Billie Jean Kuppler, Erazo and Insalaco were victorious in the 200 yard freestyle relay.
