Staten Island, N.Y.— The John Jay women's swimming team opened its 2011-12 season with a victory as the Bloodhounds defeated the College of Staten Island 114-102 on Friday evening.
The season opening road victory has the Bloodhounds at 1-0 (1-0 CUNYAC) on the season.
In what was a close race to the final event, the Bloodhounds pulled off the win by finishing first and third place in the 200 yard freestyle relay. The team of
Kaylie Bruce,
Billie Jean Kuppler,
Jezebel Erazo and
Kaili Insalaco finished first 2:05.46, beating the CSI relay team by eight seconds.
Earlier during the meet, Insalaco and Kuppler finished first and second in the 1000 freestyle as Insalaco won the race in 14:21.38 and Kuppler finished second in 15:32.26.
The Bloodhounds picked up another win in the 200 yard individual medley as Bruce scored a win in 2:54.67. Then Erazo won the 100 yard butterfly by .04 seconds as she completed the race in 1:23.59, while a CSI competitor finished second in 1:23.63.
Bruce picked up another win by picking up a victory in the 100 yard backstroke in 1:20.95, before Insalaco won the 500 yard freestyle in 6:48.76 before the final relay which secured the win for the Bloodhounds.
