Women’s Soccer Closes Out 2011 Season with 9-2 Win Over Yeshiva

Yonkers, N.Y.— The John Jay women's soccer team closed out its 2011 season in grand style on Tuesday as the Bloodhounds defeated Yeshiva University 9-2 at Tibbets Brook Park.
 
With the win, the Bloodhounds close out their season with a 7-13-2 overall record and a second place overall finish in City University of New York Athletic Conference after tying the College of Staten Island in the championship game but falling on the decisive penalty kicks to determine the championship.
 
John Jay's win on Tuesday was a record setting game for the Bloodhounds as their nine goals set a program record for most goals in a game by a John Jay women's soccer team.
 
Team tri-captain Brenda Pitts netted five goals in the win, giving her 10 in two years against Yeshiva. Teammate and fellow captain Alexis Ochoa put two in the net, while Bergelie Louis and Giselle Linares had one each.
 
“It was a tough year at times with all the injuries we had a different points this season,” said head coach Kamal Haruna. “But the girls fought and worked hard all season long and never gave up on the season.”
 
The Bloodhounds held a 21-7 advantage on shots in the contest.
 
Yeshiva's goals were scored both in the second half, first one by Ariel Freda, the other by Yael Roberts.
 
Yuri Giraldo made the start in net and made two saves in the first half before giving way to Louis who stopped two more.
