Box Score New York, N.Y.— The John Jay women's basketball team committed a season-high 42 turnovers and were outscored 47-10 in the process on points off turnovers en route to an 81-65 home loss to Farleigh Dickinson University Florham (FDU Florham) on Friday evening.
The loss leaves John Jay at 2-4 overall this season, while FDU Florham is now 4-6.
The game started out promising for the Bloodhounds. They held the visiting Devils scoreless through the first five plus minutes of the game and led 5-0 early on.
The Bloodhounds led by as much as six and were up 10-4 with 13:50 to play. Meanwhile FDU Florham could not put the ball in the ocean. The Devils failed to connect on 16 of its first 17 field goal attempts through the first eight plus minutes while trailing in the early stages.
But FDU Florham made one sweeping run and after falling behind 10-4, answered with a 21-2 run to take control of the contest as the Devils led 25-12 with 7:05 to play.
From there, FDU Florham proceeded to increase the lead. They kept the margin in double figures and led by as much as 23 late in the first half with a 43-20 lead with under thirty seconds to go, before going into halftime down 20 at 43-23.
The Bloodhounds committed 29 turnovers in the first half alone, leading to 33 FDU Florham points. The Devils outscored John Jay 33-5 on points off turnovers in the first half.
In the second half, FDU Florham managed to hold a double digit lead the rest of the way. The Devils led by as much as 24 in the second half on four occasions. John Jay managed to pull to within 14 points of the lead with 2:36 to go when the Bloodhounds trailed 77-63, but never closer.
John Jay committed 13 more turnovers in the second half. The Bloodhounds shot the ball well in the final stanza, connecting on 19-of-30 (63.3 percent). For the game, John Jay shot 53.1 percent (26-for-49). FDU Florham only shot 37 percent from the field, but the extra possessions led to 32 more shots attempted as the Devils went 30-for-81.
The Bloodhounds had four players score in double figures and were led by
Tyana Hale with 17. Meanwhile
Jamecia Forsythe had 14 to go along with six rebounds, five assists and three blocks.
Aneska Tejada came off the bench for 12 points, while
Danielle Eagan had 10.
Elizabeth Newton had 13 rebounds in the contest.
FDU Florham was led by Kyra Dayon with a triple double of 17 points, 12 rebounds and 10 steals. Breana Wilson came off the bench and added 12 points and five steals for the Devils.
John Jay is back in action on Sunday December 11 for a home game against Yeshiva University at 1 p.m.
