Women's Basketball Falls in Regular Season Finale to St. Joseph's-Brooklyn

Brooklyn, N.Y.— The John Jay women's basketball team closed out its 2010-11 regular season with a loss on Tuesday evening as the Bloodhounds were defeated by St. Joseph's-Brooklyn 88-81 in a contest at Brooklyn Tech High School.

With the loss, John Jay ends the regular season 10-15 overall as the Bloodhounds attention will immediately move forward to Saturday when they play host to York College in the opening round of the 2011 City University of New York Athletic Conference / Con Edison women's basketball championship. John Jay is the No. 4 seed of the championship and will make history as they will be playing host for the first playoff game of any kind for John Jay in the history of the Doghouse.

In Tuesday's defeat, the Bloodhounds were led by Jessica Lirio with 22 points and nine rebounds, while Jamecia Forsythe had a double-double of 12 points and 14 rebounds. Dominique Grice chipped in with 16 points and five steals, while Allana Beddoe added 15 points and six boards for the Bloodhounds.

The host Bears were led by Ashley McQuillan with 23 points and four assists, while Janine Doran added 19 points and eight rebounds.

St. Joseph's-Brooklyn held a 24-22 edge on points in the paint and outscored the Bloodhounds 21-19 on points off turnovers.

The Bears led most of the way in the first half and led by as much as eight. But the Bloodhounds kept the contest close and dwindled the lead down to one as they trailed 41-40 in the final minute before trailing 42-40 at halftime.

John Jay took control of the contest early in the second half and took the lead. The Bloodhounds led by as much as ten midway through the second stanza and led 64-54 with 10:45 to play.

But St. Joseph's-Brooklyn doubled up the Bloodhounds 34-17 over the final ten minutes to retake the lead and draw clear for the win.
